History

The Pottsville Area Development Corporation exists to promote the economic community and aesthetic development of Downtown Pottsville and Pottsville’s Designated Enterprise Zone.

In 1984, a marketing research study conducted by the American Cities Corporation recommended that a Development Corporation be formed to oversee the Revitalization of Pottsville Downtown Commercial District. The study findings led to the creation of the private, non-profit Pottsville Area Development Corporation (PADCO).

Initial start-up funds were provided by the City of Pottsville under the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Enterprise Zone Program. Capital fund drives and membership dues helped finance the origin of the Corporation locally.
